Government spending plans could benefit contractors

A spending review which has been proposed by the government could benefit those working as contractors.

With the increasing public sector deficit coming under scrutiny, the coalition has devised the Spending Review Framework to address the issue. As part of the plans, companies in the sector will be required to conduct research to ascertain if their service can be provided more efficiently.

Consequently, contract and freelance workers could be an integral part of organisations looking for ways to increase their efficiency and lower costs.

It is thought that project and change managers will be in particularly high demand to develop the plans, which could be welcome news for those seeking employment in the sector. Once finalised, the budgets will become the framework of the government’s spending plans for the next Parliament from 2011 to 2015.

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said it was time for the government to "rethink" the way it spent the nation's money.

Mr Osborne said the biggest challenge facing this generation is "to deal with our debts, to set our country on a brighter economic course, and show that we are all in this together".
